Raft into history with Mahoosuc Outdoors and North Woods Rafting on the Northern Forest Canoe Trail!
Stretching from the mighty Adirondacks in Old Forge, NY and completing the trek in Fort Kent, Maine, the Northern Forest Canoe Trail is a historic trail in the northeastern United States. Traveling this 740 mile water route would take a paddler through New York, Vermont, Quebec, New Hampshire and Maine on some of the same trade and travel routes used by Native Americans . As of 2010, only 27 paddlers had completed this feat, digging through 56 lakes and ponds, 22 rivers and streams, and transporting canoes by hand through 62 portages along the way.
When you join us here at Mahoosuc Outdoors for a rafting adventure, you are traveling parts of this historic Native American trail. Granted, we travel in a bit more of an adrenaline packed manner just for the fun of it, but you can take pride knowing you are completing a trip on a piece of New Hampshire's historic waterways. Our guides can also share lore and knowledge of the local logging industry and history that has also taken place along this waterway as you paddle and enjoy the scenery.
Curious and wanting to know more? Watch our owner, Mark Peabody, as he tells about this historic trail on an episode of Facing Waves, filmed on location on Rapid River in Maine, our most remote and challenging rafting location!
